Artificial Intelligence - Steven Spielberg
Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is about the journey of the first
robot boy made to love to find a way to become a real boy. If he
can become a real boy his "mother", the woman psychologically imprinted
upon him, will love him and take him back after she dumps him in the
woods. Along the way he runs into several misadventures on his
way across the country to find the Blue Fairy and reach the logical
conclusion of his Pinocchio-like existence.
A.I. is a fractured fairy-tale with an epic scope and a lot of style.
It runs the gamut from drama to high morality to disturbing
depravity. Some of the film is disturbing in a real emotional
and psychological manner while other parts are breath taking and
Mother Goose-ishly uplifting. There are a lot of excellent
performances from the cast, great visuals, and superb story telling.
The viewer has to have patience though but the sense of awe and
need to understand the future world presented more than makes up for
the slow build of the story. The disturbing nature, for those
who worry about it, is surely in the mind and not dependent on any
kind of gore or anything to turn away the squeamish of stomach, but
still the scenes hit their mark.
